Thinking about pouring a new concrete driveway in Utah? Whether you're building a home or replacing an old surface, your driveway is one of the most important flatwork projects you'll do. It needs to be strong, weather-resistant, and built to handle Utah's tough climate.

At Sandstone Concrete Design, we’ve installed hundreds of driveways across Utah—from the Wasatch Front to Summit County—and we know exactly what it takes to build a driveway that lasts.

🚧 Step-by-Step: What Goes Into a Concrete Driveway Install

Here’s what you can expect when working with us:

1. Site Prep

We excavate to the correct depth, typically around 8–12 inches, depending on load requirements and soil conditions.

2. Base Layer

A compacted layer of road base or gravel ensures proper support and drainage. We compact it in layers to prevent future settling.

3. Forms & Reinforcement

We place forms to define the edges and install rebar or wire mesh to strengthen the slab.

4. Concrete Pour

We pour high-strength concrete rated for freeze-thaw resistance and vehicle traffic. Slabs are poured at the proper slope to ensure drainage away from structures.

5. Finishing

Most Utah driveways use a broom finish for grip in icy or snowy conditions. It’s clean, simple, and low-maintenance.

6. Curing & Joints

We install control joints to reduce cracking and cure the concrete properly—especially important in Utah’s dry, high-altitude air.

🧊 Utah’s Climate & Why It Matters

A driveway that isn’t built with Utah in mind won’t last long. Here’s what we account for:

  • Freeze-thaw cycles that can crack improperly cured concrete

  • Salt use on roads and driveways during the winter

  • High UV exposure at elevation, which can accelerate surface wear

  • Soil movement in areas with clay or expansive soils

🧱 How Long Does a Concrete Driveway Last in Utah?

With proper prep, reinforcement, and curing, a concrete driveway in Utah should last 25–30 years or more.

We often hear from clients whose old driveways failed after 5–10 years due to poor prep, cheap mixes, or thin slabs. We don’t do that. At Sandstone Concrete Design, we build for long-term durability.

📍 Serving All of Utah

We’ve installed driveways in:

  • Salt Lake County – from Sandy to West Jordan

  • Utah County – Provo, Lehi, Saratoga Springs
